Leader of Settle Orchestra – Vacancy from September 2027

Lead, inspire, and shape the sound of a thriving orchestra in the Yorkshire Dales.
Settle Orchestra is seeking a new Leader to join us from September 2027, following the retirement of our current postholder.
With a history spanning nearly 60 years, Settle Orchestra presents three concert programmes each year to engaged and enthusiastic audiences in Settle and Skipton. Our repertoire centres on the classical canon, with regular collaborations with local choral societies on large-scale works such as the Brahms Requiem, Beethoven’s Mass in C and Verdi’s Requiem.

About the Role

The Leader plays a central artistic role within the orchestra—working closely with our annually appointed conductor from the Royal Northern College of Music to shape each season.
You will lead the string section, support the wider ensemble, and contribute to the development of programmes that are both ambitious and rewarding for players and audiences alike.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the role is the opportunity to collaborate each year with a new, emerging conductor—bringing fresh ideas, perspectives and musical energy to the orchestra.
