Settle Orchestra Concludes Season with French Flair and Classical Brilliance
Following a highly successful year of music-making, Settle Orchestra brings its 2026 season to a radiant close this June with a vibrant programme of French elegance and classical vitality. Under the baton of Andre Chan, the orchestra has enjoyed a season of sell-out concerts, with both its Autumn and Spring performances drawing full audiences and heartfelt acclaim.
Building on this momentum, the final concerts promise an uplifting celebration of orchestral colour, charm and wit. Performances take place at Christ Church, Skipton on Saturday 20 June at 3.30pm and Settle Parish Church on Saturday 27 June at 3.30pm.
The programme opens with Claude Debussy’s Sarabande, in the luminous orchestral arrangement by Maurice Ravel. With its poised simplicity and shimmering textures, the work invites listeners into a world of quiet reflection and refined impressionism.
From there, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 31 in D major, “Paris” brings energy and theatrical brilliance, capturing the vibrancy of an 18th-century musical capital with elegance and flair.
The second half returns to the French sound world with Ravel’s beloved Pavane pour une infante défunte, a piece of understated beauty and nostalgic grace, followed by Francis Poulenc’s spirited Sinfonietta, whose playful character and bright orchestral colours provide a jubilant finale.
