This season the orchestra is offering three contrasting programmes and the first of these is both an intriguing and technically challenging one carefully put together by our new conductor. Made up entirely of works by three French composers who were all prominent in the fertile Parisian musical scene of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, but who were following somewhat different developmental paths, the programme oozes Gallic elegance, refinement and charm as well as compositional mastery. These opening concerts also offer the chance to hear fine pieces by Saint-Saëns and Fauré which are not played as often as they might be – something very much to look forward to!
